Sikkim Aama Yojana 2025
The Sikkim government has launched a new scheme Sikkim Aama Sasaktikaran Scheme on Sunday (5th March) to empower mothers who stay at home. Under this scheme, a ‘savings account’ will be opened in the name of every mother. The aim of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to those women who are married and have children but do not have any employment.

Sikkim Aama Sasaktikaran Yojana
There are approximately 14,000 female beneficiaries from 32 electoral constituencies in the state. Among them are married women who are 18 years or older, who do not work outside the home and whose family members do not have regular government jobs. They are covered under this scheme. The Sikkim government has launched the ‘Sikkim Aama Sasaktikaran Yojana’ to empower mothers.
Eligibility For Scheme
The scheme provides an annual amount of Rs. 20,000 to the beneficiaries. Chief Minister P.S. Tamang checked on 14,000 beneficiaries in Rangpo, eastern Sikkim. This scheme covers all mothers in the state who are non-working, single, divorced, victims of sexual abuse, unmarried or widowed. The government believes that this will promote self-sufficiency and empowerment among women.
Objective of Scheme
Chief Minister PS Tamang said that we have allocated 100 crores for this scheme for the year 2023. The main objective is to economically empower mothers at home. An amount of Rs. 20,000 will be credited to their accounts, which they can use for their expenses. Additionally, the Chief Minister said that homemakers are often neglected in society, and the Sikkim government is focusing on such women.
The main aim of the Yojana is to provide annual financial aid to these mothers, empowering them to become self-sufficient and independent. This financial aid can be utilized to support their children’s education, invest in micro-income generating businesses, provide immediate medical assistance to the family, renovate their homes, or fulfill any other unmet obligations. The Women and Child Development Department (WCCD) of the Government of Sikkim is responsible for implementing this scheme.

Sikkim is the first state in the country to launch such a welfare scheme for women. The scheme will not only ensure stability for mothers in society but also provide them with the strength to change their families’ lives. The state government claims that this scheme will give women the opportunity to use funds for their children’s educational needs, increase their family income, and meet other necessary requirements. Through this program, the state government aims to promote the tradition of saving money among non-working mothers.
