This scheme covers all mothers in the state who are non-working, single, divorced, victims of sexual abuse, unmarried or widowed. The government believes that this will promote self-sufficiency and empowerment among women.
Objective of Scheme
Chief Minister PS Tamang said that we have allocated 100 crores for this scheme for the year 2023. The main objective is to economically empower mothers at home. An amount of Rs. 20,000 will be credited to their accounts, which they can use for their expenses. Additionally, the Chief Minister said that homemakers are often neglected in society, and the Sikkim government is focusing on such women.
The main aim of the Yojana is to provide annual financial aid to these mothers, empowering them to become self-sufficient and independent. This financial aid can be utilized to support their children’s education, invest in micro-income generating businesses, provide immediate medical assistance to the family, renovate their homes, or fulfill any other unmet obligations. The Women and Child Development Department (WCCD) of the Government of Sikkim is responsible for implementing this scheme.
